The Temple of Heaven is one of the symbols of China's capital and dates back to the early 15th century to the days when the emperors would hold elaborate rituals to ensure good harvests around the current in the complex. The temple was registered as a World Heritage Monument by UNESCO in 1998 is now one of the largest parks in Beijing and is undergoing a wide-ranging program of renovation which is due to be completed in the next few months, along with many other monuments being prepared for the 2008 Olympic Games.
