The Leshan Giant Buddha statue, which was carved out of a hillside in the eighth century, stands at 71 meters (233 ft) and is the tallest Buddha statue in the world, in Leshan, southwest China's Sichuan province on November 8, 2007. Chinese authorities will give a "facelift" to the world's tallest stone-carved Buddha just six years after the last repair effort as they struggle to fend off the effects of pollution and crowds, state media reported.
